The Black Line
What does it means to be a Black man in America?

That’s the question that filmmaker D. Channsin Berry set out to answer. Over a period of eight years, Berry interviewed 63 men ages 14 to 90 from all walks of life, from all parts of the country, for his groundbreaking film: The Black Line: A Profile of the African-American Man.
In The Black Line, men candidly discuss their achievements and collective failures. This revealing program scratches beneath the surface of what it means to be a Black man in America, everything from fatherhood and love to politics and identity.
Released in 2008, The Black Line has toured the U.S., with director Berry tackling tough questions with artful responses in television, print and radio interviews.
In The Black Line, Part 2, Berry returns with another searing reveal of the lives of young Black men in America. And finally, in Part 3, he completes the trilogy with an examination of America’s Black women.
